Torquay and The English Riviera area have the benefit of an impressive range of golf courses for any visitor to the area wanting to enjoy a golfing break in this beautiful part of south Devon.
In the St Marychurch area of Torquay lies Torquay Golf Club. It is only a five or six minute drive from any of our apartments and so very accessible.
It is closest to our Falstone Apartment in St Marychurch and the Muntham Apartments and Town House are not far away either. It is a very long established club having been founded in 1909.
It has 18 holes and is par 69/72. The course features a parkland layout with the additional attraction of some stunning coastal scenery. Handicap certificates are required.
The club does run holiday camps to help youngsters to learn to play.
For non Golfers the nearby centre of St Marychurch has plenty of independent traders and cafes to keep visitors amused plus there are the nearby attractions such as Babbacombe Model Village, Bygones, The Babbacombe Cliff Railway and Babbacombe Downs.
And if all that wasn't enough, guests at The Muntham Town House have their own private hot tub to relax in whilst others in their party are busy on the golf course.
Located at the other end of Tor Bay is Churston Golf Club. This is another 18 hole golf course par 70 located between Paignton and Brixham.
The course also has great sea views but additonally benefits from having beneath it a sub strata of shillet and shale which keeps the course particularly well drained which in turn means it is useable every day of the year.
For non golfers, there are two National Trust properties nearby. The first is Greenway which was the holiday home of Agatha Christie and the second is Coleton Fishacre which was the home of the D'Oyly Carte family who owned the Savoy Theatre in London.
Just north of the English Riviera and a short distance from Newton Abbot, there is another golf course this time belonging to the Dainton Golf Club.
It is an 18 hole course laid out in classic parkland with views across to Dartmoor and the stunning South Hams area of Devon. Visitors are welcome 7 days per week with no handicap certificate being required.
The club also has a 10 bay floodlit drive range, a PGA golf academy and a modern clubhouse.
For non golfers in the party, there is a fantastic garden centre, Fermoys opposite the entrance to the golf club where keen gardeners can while away a good few hours.
The town of Newton Abbot is also close by and there is plenty to keep people amused there including one of England's last independent department stores, Austin's.
West of Torquay and The English Riviera there is the Dartmouth Golf and Country Club. They have two courses designed by Jeremy Pern laid in classic parkland style. The first course is an 18 hole, 7200 yard par 72 championship course whilst the second is a 9 hole, 2252 yard, par 33 course. Both have been listed by Golf Monthly in their top 100 hidden gems in Great Britain.
From Torquay and The English Riviera, it is about a thirty minute car journey. For non golfers the town of Dartmouth has plenty to keep visitors occupied. The town itself is charming and there are plenty of riverside walks. Furthermore The Dartmouth Steam Railway and River Boat Company provides boat trips up the stunning River Dart some of which include stops at Totnes.
For those days when you want something a little less strenuous there is also a crazy golf course in Torre Abbey Gardens called Jungle Journey Adventure Golf. This can be accessed from the small car park in Belgrave Road opposite the Premier Inn.
For non golfers, the nearby Torre Abbey will provide plenty of interest and entertainment.
