WELCOME TO THE Muntham APARTMENTS
The Muntham Luxury Apartments and Townhouse are to be found in Wellswood, a leafy residential part of Torquay which is just a short distance from Torquay harbour and town centre but which is also close to Babbacombe and St Marychurch.
As a result of their closeness to it, the apartments are ideally placed for guests to take full advantage of all that "Wellswood Village" has to offer. This heart of the neighbourhood includes a patisserie, a delicatessen, beauty salons, hair salons, cafes, a wine bar, a pub a newsagent and a mini supermarket and much else besides.
The apartments also make a wonderful base from which to explore The English Riviera. The internationally important Kent's Cavern is but a ten to fifteen minute stroll away, whilst the nearest beach is about twelve minutes away on foot and the stunning Walls Hill cliff top area (site of an Iron Age Fort) is about a fifteen minute walk.
The close proximity of key bus routes (a five minute walk from the apartments ) also means that guests can leave their car behind in the car park and enjoy a car free break. Buses to and from Torquay harbour and town centre take about five minutes whilst those to Babbacombe and St Marychurch also take five and ten minutes respectively. Some buses go further afield and it is possible to travel as far as Teignmouth and Dawlish in one direction and Paignton and Brixham in another without changing buses. It is even possible to travel as far as Exeter and Plymouth.
Equally, guests can access the wide variety of English Riviera attractions such as Paignton Zoo, Living Coasts, Torquay Musuem, The National Trust properties of Coleton Fishacre, Greenway and Compton Castle and Torre Abbey in less than half an hour by car.
Muntham was originally built for a Victorian Member of Parliament for Torquay (although it was given a different name at the time) and was a private residence when its name was changed to "Muntham" by the then owner Sir Christopher Chitty who had been a Lord Chief Justice of Calcutta. Muntham was supposed to mean "gentle breeze" in Hindi.
Today, the building retains much of its original charm but has converted successfully into self catering holiday accommodation fit for the 21st century. There is accommodation ranging from the luxurious three bedroom townhouse, through to superb spacious one bedroom ground floor apartments and cosy first floor studios. The property is surrounded by nearly an acre of mature gardens giving it the feel of a town centre oasis of tranquility. We are delighted to accept well behaved pets in the apartments - charges do apply.
A great number of people add a visit to the theatre during their stay in the area and The Muntham Apartments are ideally placed for theatre breaks. The Babbacombe Theatre is a five minute car or taxi journey away whilst The Princess Theatre on Torquay seafront and The Little Theatre in Meadfoot can be reached in less than ten minutes.
It is a short walk down to St Matthias' Church from the apartments which makes them well placed for guests attending special events such as weddings or christenings.
The Muntham Apartments themselves have been created within one of Torquay's finest Victorian villas. originally built for a man who became one of Torquay's most notable members of Parliament , it went on to be the home of a former Lord Chief Justice of Calcutta. it was he who named it "Muntham" which apparently meant "gentle breeze" in Hindi.
Today we are able to offer visitors two wonderfully spacious one bedroom apartments on the ground floor, two cosy one bedroom apartments on the first floor and two first floor studio apartments. For visitors who crave space and luxury we have "The Townhouse" which is a three bedroom, two bathroom town house style property arranged over three floors. On the lower level is a large family kitchen with direct access onto the gardens, whilst on the floor above is large amounts of living space which is ideal for families who really like to be able to spread out and not feel on top of each other. All apartments have free wifi and use of our communal laundry room. We are delighted to welcome pets in our ground floor apartments and in The Townhouse.
One of the key features of the apartments is their extensive mature gardens which amount to almost one acre. This means that The Muntham Apartments are truly a peaceful and idyllic place for a break away by the sea.
The apartments have their own parking and there are enough spaces for all guests.
